‘You get what you pay for’ is an old mantra but it is true in Wills. Sometimes a DIY job seems like a good cost saving but it tends to create unnecessary risk of complications and expense in the future. “Lawyers are like hairdressers” says Ben Siegmann, Managing Director of SA Estate and Succession Lawyers. The point is, you don’t have to go to the hairdressers to have a hair cut. There are no barriers to entry in cutting your own hair – you just need a pair of scissors. But – most people will choose to go to the hairdressers to get a haircut. The reason for that is because you know when you go to the hairdressers for a haircut you will get a better job and you’ll get the job you want. The same is true of drafting your Will.
